Malaysia to begin renewing public bus fleet this year

“Rapid” public transport buses in Malaysia

Malaysia - The Malaysian government is expected to put into service the first batch of new buses with operator Rapid Bus later this year, after it launched a much-needed public transport fleet renewal tender in July.

Earlier this year, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, announced that the government had allocated a budget of MYR 1.9 billion (USD 444 million) for the purchase of 1,660 new diesel and battery-powered buses over a period of three years. The buses will be used on key urban routes, including in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and the tourist island of Penang.
