First Bus opens Bristol’s first all-electric bus depot

Hengrove electric bus depot

UKFirst Bus has opened Bristol’s first electrified bus depot at Hengrove, following a GBP 44 million investment, part-funded by the UK government’s ZEBRA scheme (GBP 6.6 million). The facility supports a fleet of 74 Yutong electric buses, including 67 double-deck and 7 single-deck vehicles, now operating across seven major city routes, supplied by Pelican Engineering.

This marks a milestone as the first fully electric depot within Bristol. The site features gantry-style charging units installed by NG Bailey and allows efficient overnight charging for the entire fleet. It follows similar projects in Weston-super-Mare and Taunton but is the first of its kind in the city.
