Mahindra completes its takeover of SML Isuzu and rebrands as SML Mahindra

India - Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) of Mumbai has completed its acquisition of a 58.96% stake in SML Isuzu Ltd of Chandigarh, marking a major step in the group’s commercial vehicle (CV) expansion strategy. The stake was purchased from Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu Motors Ltd for INR555 crore (USD66.6m), following approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

With the purchase, the company will be rebranded as SML Mahindra Limited, subject to regulatory approvals. M&M has also changed the company’s leadership structure:
