Busworld 2025: Valeo launches dedicated electric compressor for buses

EDC-120 compressor from Valeo

Belgium – Last month, we published an article on Valeo’s strategy for the e-bus market in the run up to Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels, 4-9 October. The flagship product for e-buses presented at the company’s stand was the ‘EDC-120’, a new electric compressor entering production next year; but in fact, there were many other products and components on show that demonstrated the depth and breadth of Valeo’s experience in supplying original equipment to the electric vehicle manufacturers. While these were developed originally for the car segment, the company’s message to showgoers was clear: these parts can be readily adapted to the demands of the electric bus market.

Nevertheless, the EDC-120 took the spotlight, billed as the best option on the market in terms of weight, packaging, quietness, and efficiency. The EDC-120 integrates an electric compressor (with displacement of 120cc) with an inverter developed in-house, providing a complete unit weighing less than 30 kilograms and measuring less than 200 millimetres in height that can easily fit into a rooftop A/C unit. It combines two strands of Valeo expertise: its newfound experience in developing electric powertrain products together with its longstanding range of mechanical compressors, supplied over many decades.
