USA / UK - BAE Systems is to supply Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) with 194 electric-hybrids employing its Series-ER extended range propulsion system. Series-ER systems (as compared with Series-E) are supplied with higher capacity batteries to extend 'engine off' driving range and further reduce emissions and noise pollution on bus routes.

The 194 buses are options taken up by MBTA following a previous order placed with New Flyer Industries. They will all feature the company's Xcelsior 40ft bodies. Additional to this order is another for five full-electric New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE 60ft articulated buses. These buses each have a passenger capacity of 120 and are to be placed in service on MBTA's Silver Line routes to demonstrate zero emission operation.
