Germany – Less than two years on from the product and manufacturing launch, Horstmar-based Schmitz Cargobull AG (SCB) has decided to shut down its V.KO Van Bodies production in Berlin. It will close the Berlin site and enter into negotiations for reconciliation of interests.

With the expansion of its product portfolio into the van segment from three to six tonnes, SCB developed and launched an innovative product and van body concept. The company maintains the quality of its van body kits was convincing, but in the highly competitive environment of van bodies, production in the current set-up is not economically efficient in the long term, stated Schmitz. SCB therefore has decided to cease the production of the V.KO DRY and close the Berlin site. For the V.KO COOL, the response after the presentation at IAA 2018 was very good, so strategic positioning in this area is being examined.
