East Asia – The market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in East Asia’s seven main markets (excluding China) strengthened significantly in the fourth quarter of 2018, with combined sales growing by 12% to 462,934 units from 419,290 in the same period of 2017, according to data compiled by www.AsiaMotorBusiness.com from numerous industry sources.

The strong fourth-quarter performance was mainly due to sharp rises in Thailand and Indonesia, while sales in Japan also enjoyed reasonably strong growth in the fourth quarter as the economy rebounded after a series of natural disasters in the third quarter. Similarly, the market in South Korea enjoyed a strong fourth quarter which offset in part declines in the previous three quarters in 2018.
