Japan - UD Trucks, based in Ageo, Saitama prefecture (a Volvo Group subsidiary), in January launched the updated Quester – its heavy-duty truck range designed for developing markets with tough road conditions in mind.

The company says the new Quester offers 10% better fuel-efficiency than its predecessor resulting from its lighter weight, latest ESCOT automated manual transmission and optimized driveline, which can be adapted to individual operating conditions, driving characteristics and maintenance schedules. ESCOT has imbedded software which optimizes gear shift selection according to engine revs, vehicle speed, payload weight and road gradient, and it shift gears automatically based on a smart sensor-based system. The new truck range meets Euro III to Euro VI in all target markets.
