UD Trucks launches new Quon heavy-duty ‘lightweight’ truck model with 8-litre engine

Japan - UD Trucks, based in Ageo, Saitama prefecture (a Volvo Group subsidiary) added a new model to its Quon heavy truck range at the end of January featuring a small displacement 8-litre engine. UD Trucks explained the smaller engine displacement helps reduce the truck’s overall weight by 300kg compared with existing models, resulting in substantially improved payload capacity.

The new truck is aimed at a growing requirement among logistics operators for short and medium distance journeys, fuelled by growing demand for e-commerce services. With the Japanese trucking industry facing a serious shortage of drivers, heavier trucks are now also needed for short and medium distances such as between main depots and local distribution centres.
