Germany – Wiehl-based BPW Bergische Achsen is launching its new ECO Disc TS2 at Bauma. Specifically designed for use on construction industry trailers, the calliper is lighter and has fewer components – specifically it uses a single tappet operation in conjunction with a reinforced back plate on the friction pads to ensure even wear and give longer life while delivering the same performance.

The calliper retains its KTL zinc coating and the special disc alloy, used in the first generation, is unchanged. The discs can be changed without dismantling the brake calliper, saving both time and money. BPW said it firmly believes fewer components mean there is less to break and therefore reliability is increased. In a multi-functional adjuster (MFA), the most important functions have been integrated into a small number of innovative components. In addition, the reduction in components makes the brakes even lighter and more compact – in the case of a three-axle truck, twelve kilograms (12kg) of usable load is gained. If the vehicle is frequently "dirty" on the construction site, BPW can also supply disc covers and shaft covers on request. These protect the friction pairing against the ingress of dirt and increased wear.
