Canada – The Lion Electric Company of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, has launched its first electric truck – the Lion8 – signifying its Class 8 classification. Better known as a builder of service buses and school buses, Lion's first foray into the truck sector has been specifically designed for rugged operations in harsh North American weather conditions with a chassis suited to adopt a range of body types and operational applications.

On-board battery capacity of up 480kWH is available and this is expected to give a range of over 400km per single charge. Produced by South Korea’s LG Chem, the battery can be recharged with 20 – 100kW, with charge times from 2.5 to 16 hours. The powertrain utilises a Dana TM4 Sumo HD HV3500 electric motor and inverter driving tandem 40,000lb Dana rear-axles. Power output of the motor is 350kw and its maximum torque is 2,750Nm. The front axle is a 14,600lb unit from Hendrickson – as are the air suspension units. Bendix air disc brakes are fitted all round.
