Santiago de Chile invests in electric commuter coach

Chile / China - February 2019 saw Chile introduce, what it claims, is South America’s first intercity electric coach. The vehicle, which is being operated between Santiago (the Chilean capital) and the historic city of Rancagua, covers a distance of 86 kilometres between the two cities.

The electric coach is a King Long (Xiamen King Long United Automobile Industry Co Ltd) in Xiamen vehicle, model number KL6130, which was produced in China by King Long and imported by Chilean distributor, Vivipra Ltda of Santiago de Chile. The coach is offered with a nominal power of 195kW (261hp) and a maximum power of 350kW (469hp). The bus has a pack of 10 batteries with a power capacity of 314kWh.  The bus takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge. King Long has also incorporated safety features as standard including electric current cut-off, fire suppression system and tyre pressure monitoring.
