UK – Scarborough-based Plaxton, the coach manufacturing division of Alexander Dennis Ltd, is supplying two-axle versions of its flagship Elite coach on Volvo B8R chassis. The new combination, which is claimed to offer high fuel efficiency, can accommodate up to 53 passengers in a vehicle length of 13.2m. The new model also increases luggage carrying capacity by half a tonne. Ten coaches built to this specification are joining the fleet of launch customer, Logan’s Executive Travel of Dunloy for the 2019 season.

Volvo's B8R 4x2 chassis is powered by an eight-litre 350hp D8K engine matched with the  I-Shift automated transmission, which is the underlying basis of Plaxton's successful Leopard and Panther (12.8m) models. In addition to 53 reclining seats, the 13.2m Elite offers a centre sunken toilet at the continental exit door. The increased wheelbase maximises luggage locker space, which can be fully utilised due to the lightweight chassis.
