The Enviro500EVs for the MTR Corporation are complete Alexander Dennis vehicles (chassis and body) manufactured by a contract manufacturing partner in Zhuhai.

The vehicle in question – a battery electric ‘Enviro100’ which has been retrofitted with Fusion’s ‘CAVstar’ automated driving system – is now being tested in order to calibrate and fine tune the self-driving system before it is put into service.

At the 2024 Euro Bus Expo, T&BB sat down with Paul Davies, the CEO of Alexander Dennis, to discuss the company’s new product range.

Stagecoach told Truck & Bus Builder that the 715 buses come from a range of different suppliers, including: Alexander Dennis; Wrightbus; Pelican Yutong; and Volvo Buses.

These 8.9-meter-long buses have been specially modified by the AD24 workshop in Harlow to enhance functionality, with more standing room and an additional door on the driver’s side for flexible boarding.

ADL has won a contract to deliver 29 of its next-generation Enviro500EV electric double-deck buses, to Canadian transport operator BC Transit* in British Columbia, Canada. The vehicles will be built in North America, through build partner Big Rig Manufacturing.

Due to the next-generation battery technology supplied by Polish battery company Impact Clean Power Technology, ADL has increased its “warrantable energy throughput” of its next-gen electric buses (Enviro400EV and Enviro100EV).

ADL launched its next-generation electric Enviro400EV double-decker in late 2023. Stagecoach ordered 55 units, with full delivery over the course of 2024. The buses will operate in Oxford's low-emission Smart Zone.

ADL has announced an impressive set of testing results, conducted by UTAC engineers at the Millbrook Proving Ground. The bus has an “average energy consumption of just 0.67kWh/km across the UK Bus Cycle*” and a “theoretical” operating range of 620km (385 miles) on a single charge. This is the most efficient electric double-decker bus ever tested through the Zemo** partnership, helping to boost performance and profitability for the operators.

ADL announced that is growing its presence in the North American market, with an order for 12 battery-electric Enviro500EV double-deck buses to the public transport agency, Foothill Transit, to operate in downtown Los Angeles in 2026.

ADL announced that the first Enviro500 double-deck bus manufactured by its new North American build partner (Big Rig Manufacturing) is be delivered to the Appalachian State University campus in North Carolina in 2025.

This vehicle has been designed and engineered in-house and with series production already started in Lambert, Scotland, the first deliveries are set for Q1 2024.
