FEV, the Aachen-based engineering services consultancy specialist revealed a new 48-volt electric drive axle system at the Vienna Motor Symposium in May. FEV claims the unit is ideally suited for application in light municipal utility vehicles such as sweepers or small dump trucks – in order to reduce emissions in the city to zero.

FEV's concept is designed for use on components already available in the market and offers a solution said to be as cost-effective and quickly accessible as possible. In addition, the axle can be configured in several ways – with one or two electric motors, different transmission ratios, and with wheel brakes as an option. In total, the unit with two electric motors delivers a maximum axle torque of 1,500Nm.
