Vietnam’s pickup truck market surges 23% in Q1/19

Vietnam - The Vietnamese market for pick-up trucks rebounded by 23% to 5,493 units in the first quarter from 4,466 units a year earlier, with imports from Thailand recovering strongly from last year’s customs delays following the introduction of new regulations at the beginning of last year.

Toyota led the recovery in the first quarter, with Hilux sales jumping by 550% to record sales of 859 units from very depressed year-earlier levels, while Mazda and Mitsubishi also made strong sales gains of over 23% to 662 units and 18% to 608 units, respectively. Segment leader Ford reported a less than 2% gain in Ranger sales to 2,786 units, while sales of the Chevrolet Colorado increased by just over 11% to 477 units.
