France - The STAR project – the word STAR is a reversed acronym for Rapid Autonomous Transport System, which is being led by Iveco Bus, a subsidiary of CNH Industrial, based in  Lyons - is a French funded research programme launched in 2017 that aims to develop the first driverless, autonomous standard bus for Europe capable of operating under conditions similar to real operations, is on track to produce a first prototype in early 2021.

The development is being undertaken by a consortium of companies, with Iveco Bus as the lead in conjunction with Easymile. EasyMile, established in 2014, is based in Toulouse and is regarded as a world leader in intelligent mobility solutions, and is providing the project with its technology as well as its experience in platform integration, deployment and autonomous vehicle fleet management.
