USA / Hungary Allison Transmission Inc of Indianapolis has celebrated assembly of its 250,000th fully automatic transmission at its factory at Szentgotthárd, Hungary.  The transmission was a 4000 Series Torqmatic model destined for Belgian bus and coach manufacturer, Van Hool for installation in a Van Hool EX touring coach at its production facility in Skopje, Macedonia.

The plant in Hungary produces 3000 and 4000 Series transmissions, which are distributed to OEMs worldwide. The plant started operation in 2000 with the 3000 Series transmissions and this was expanded with 4000 Series products in 2005. With the new facility in 2011 came the capacity to expand to offer a “customisation centre” where Allison’s specialists prepare the transmissions for individual applications. The company indicated that the annual production figure for Hungary is around 15,000 units a year.
