Solaris wins COTRAL contract for Rome

Poland / Italy COTRAL, the Rome-based operation in charge of regional transport, has signed another framework contract with Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. of Bolechowo, Poland (a subsidiary of Spain’s CAF Group - Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) for the supply of up to 300 InterUrbino interurban buses. Solaris gained the previous COTRAL contract issued in 2016 for 360 buses of the same type.

The first 50 buses are to be supplied in 2019 with the remainder to follow in stages. Solaris is also contracted to provide maintenance for 10 years. Overall the contract is valued at EUR117m. The 12m InterUrbinos seat 55 passengers and can accommodate up to 67 in total. Luggage racks are provided for hand baggage and a central underfloor locker caters for larger suitcases. They are powered by 251kW DAF MX-11 engines compliant with Euro 6 stage D emissions standards. Other features include a video surveillance system, passenger counting gates and a voice announcement system. The carrier also specified MobilEye – a safety system for drivers supporting a lane-keeping assistant.
