Japan – Tokyo-based Toyota Motor Corporation, worldwide partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, is to support the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, by developing a special new product, the APM (Accessible People Mover), a battery electric mobility vehicle designed expressly for use at the Games.

The APM measures 3.9m long, 1.6m wide and 2.0m high. The basic unit seats a driver in front and two rows of seating to accommodate up to five passengers. The central (three-seater) row can be folded away to allow wheelchair access along with the two rear seats. Open sides allow boarding from either side. Some alternative specification APMs are to be configured to carry a stretcher and two attendants. All versions are limited to a top speed of 19km/h and have a range of 100km between charges.
