Portugal / Japan / France - H2.City Gold is the name of the new hydrogen powered Caetano electric bus, with a range of 400km built by CaetanoBus in Portugal and featuring the Toyota fuel cell system: This is the first product from the hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) partnership agreement announced previously between the Salvador Caetano Group and one of the world’s automotive giant, Toyota Motor Corporation of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan – the new vehicle was unveiled at Busworld Europe in Brussels in October. CaetanoBus becomes the first company in Europe to use Toyota’s leading fuel cell technology developed via its passenger car business.

Available in two lengths of 10.7m and 12m, from the start, the H2.City Gold city bus,  is also available in left hand drive (LHD) and right hand drive (RHD). The H2.City Gold city bus uses the same 60kW fuel cell stack as the Toyota Mirai car but comes with an electric motor with a rated power of 180kW. It features five 312-litre hydrogen tanks to give a range of up to 400kms. The hydrogen tanks and the fuel cell stack are stored on the vehicle’s roof to optimize the interior space and offering  several different interior layouts. Lithium Titanate Oxide batteries are used to store the energy produced by the Toyota Fuel Cell System. A single refill takes less than nine minutes. As with Caetano’s electric bus, this model can also be fitted with a wide range of other safety features, so its performance and experience are like conventional vehicles, with the added benefit of less noise, no CO2, NOx or particulate emissions.
