UK truck registrations almost double in Q2 ahead of mandatory Smart Tachograph fitment

UK – Registrations of new heavy goods vehicles (HGV) rose 46.3% in the second quarter of 2019, with 15,605 units registered, according to figures issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The organisation believes large orders were placed ahead of the mandatory fitment of Smart Tachographs, adding a further boost to registrations and following a strong first quarter of the year.

Second quarter registrations of rigid trucks above six tonnes grew by 51.9% from 6,304 to 9,574 units; with both the medium (>6-16t) and heavy segments (>16t) segments contributing to  growth - see table below.
