The Netherlands / Belgium - Electric bus builder, Ebusco NV of Duerne won the Innovation award at Busworld for its new 3.0 city bus model, which features a carbon space-frame construction and composite panelling claimed to reduce weight by 33% to a minimal 8.0 tonnes. According to Ebusco the dramatic weight reduction (normally between 12 and 14t for conventional vehicles) allows the 3.0 model to achieve a range of over 500km per single charge, the company claims – making it highly suitable for both urban and regional bus operation.

Scant detail on specification was available during the launch but Ebusco claimed its use of composites and carbon had not compromised body strength or rigidity. Batteries are contained within the low floor structure that lowers the centre of gravity and improves stability. Passenger capacity was said to be 85-90, depending on specification.
