Hino and Traton establish joint procurement joint venture

Japan / Germany - Japanese truck-maker, Hino Motors Ltd of Hinoshi (a Toyota Group company) in late October 2019 announced it has established a new procurement joint venture with the Traton Group of Brunswick, Germany (the medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle unit of Volkswagen AG), called Hino & Traton Global Procurement; with the aim of sharing outsourcing costs and development of selected technologies.

The new company is 51%-owned by the Volkswagen group and 49% by Hino Motors and is now responsible for joint purchases of selected components and technologies to help increase economies of scale and reduce costs. Most of the joint procurement is expected to take place in Asia and Europe.
