Japan / Australia / USAHino Motor Sales Australia Pty Ltd of Caringbah (Brisbane) has noted a high uptake of Allison’s fully automatic transmission (Allison 3200 series 6 speed with electronic control) being specified in its medium-duty Hino 500 Series truck sold in Australia.

Daniel Petrovski, manager of product strategy for Hino Australia, said demand for Allison automatic transmissions had been increasing and was continuing to grow. Stating 65% of medium-duty truck sales being specified with the Allison fully automatic transmission, Petrovski commented: “We did forecast a decade ago that predicted around 80% of medium-duty trucks would be automatics by 2019, and it looks like we will come close to meeting that figure. The trend is continuing to grow in this direction. Across all our models there has been a trend towards automatics. The Hino 500 Series has a high demand for automatic transmissions, and it was a conscious decision to choose Allison. Vocational applications prefer a true automatic and Allison is the best solution, particularly in the 350 horsepower and below rating.”
