Germany – The second largest public transport operator in Germany, Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) in Hamburg has taken delivery of 16 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric buses. A further four of the 12m electric city buses are scheduled to join them later this year alongside 17 articulated eCitaro G models. VHH has announced it is only acquiring electric buses from now onwards for use on city routes.

All 16 vehicles feature three double width doors for rapid boarding and alighting. Glazed wall segments are employed in the standing area of the saloon, USB phone charging points are provided, and the flooring has a wood-effect finish. The eCitaros are equipped with 12 battery packs with a total capacity of 292kWh which is enough for daily operation. Safety features include ESP stability system, ABA Preventive braking and the Sideguard Assist turning aid.
