Netherlands – At the request of the customer, Connexxion (part of Transdev Netherlands), electric bus builder, Ebusco NV of Deurne, The Netherlands, is to fit cameras on all 156 new, electric buses, instead of normal wing mirrors, destined for Amstelland-Meerlanden and Haarlem-Ijmond concessions later this year. Connexxion says it will be the first transport company in the Netherlands to use cameras in this way.

All the vehicles are to have two high definition cameras* on the outside, and two screens (monitors) inside the bus. The screen on the driver’s left side has been mounted on the ‘A’ post inside the bus, while the right screen for showing the right side of the vehicle has been mounted more centrally and in a similar position to where a central rear view mirror is placed in a car. An advantage of this is that both mirror monitors are positioned equidistant and, in the driver’s normal line of focus and sight. It is understood Ebusco has worked with Stoneridge Inc of Novi, Michigan, which is supplying the MirrorEye Camera Monitor System (CMS), developed in conjunction with its subsidiary company, Orlaco Products BV of Barneveld, The Netherlands (Stoneridge bought Barneveld in January 2017).
