USA / Thailand / China - General Motors Company (GMC) of Detroit, Michigan, USA says it plans to withdraw from several markets in Asia-Pacific and Oceania to focus on its most profitable global markets. It is to wind down sales, engineering and design operations in Australia and New Zealand, which employ 830 people, and ‘retire’ the Holden car brand by 2021.
The company also said it has agreed to sell its Rayong plant in Thailand, which makes the Colorado pickup truck and the Trailblazer SUV, to China’s Great Wall Motors. It plans to withdraw the Chevrolet brand from the Thai market by the end of 2020.
