Japan - Isuzu Motors Ltd of Shinagawa, Tokyo and car giant, Honda Motor Ltd of Minato-ku, Tokyo in January signed an agreement to carry out joint research to develop fuel-cell-powered heavy-duty trucks.

Driven by ever stricter emissions regulations globally, Isuzu says it has been looking to develop cleaner alternatives to conventional diesel-powered trucks, including clean diesel engines, natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains. Honda, on the other hand, has been researching and developing hydrogen fuel-cell systems for vehicles for more than 30 years, in addition to its efforts to develop hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.
