USA / Turkey - Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, USA used Busworld Turkey 2020 in Istanbul last month to display its Next Generation Battery Electric System (BES) in an 8.9m long bus; the system is typically for the European bus market.

The display included a new low-profile battery pack measuring just 150mm in height and featuring high energy BP74E battery cells. The batteries have been integrated in the roof, in the engine bay and under the floor – see picture, Cummins low profile batteries. The system is utilising a central drive system connected to a conventional axle, chosen, said Cummins, as it allows significant integration benefits on existing EV solutions and current ICE vehicles.
