USA / China – Container chassis producer, CIE Manufacturing Inc, which officially changed its name in late January this year from CIMC Intermodal Equipment Inc of South Gate, California, says it is transitioning from an assembly operation of container chassis imported from China for the north American market to full scale manufacturing production in the United States this year. The company’s web pages have indicated this move is very much in response to the trade war between the USA and China and the tariffs improved on imported steel products.

CIE Manufacturing Inc, which remains a subsidiary of the world’s largest container chassis producer, China International Marine Containers Group Co Ltd (CIMC)* of Shenzhen, China, says in the fourth quarter of 2019 it started to relocate manufacturing from China to the USA by creating full manufacturing capabilities in both its South Gate facility as well as on the east coast in Emporia, Virginia; a move, it says will target faster product delivery.
