Poland - Miejskie Przedsiebiorstwo Komunikacyjne S.A. (MPK), the public transport operator for the city of Krakow, Poland, is purchasing 50, Solaris Urbino 18 electric buses from Solaris Bus & Coach SA, which are to be delivered by the Bolechowo-based bus builder within the year from when the contract was signed (May 25). The contract, worth PLN165m (EUR36.8m) including 50 plug-in charging stations, will expand significantly the existing MPK fleet of 400 Solaris vehicles of varying configurations in Krakow - including 28 electric buses.

The 18m electric buses are to be propelled by electric axles with integrated electric motors. Energy is to be stored in high density Solaris High Energy+ batteries. Two re-charging modes are proposed: Use of a 4-pole roof-mounted pantograph placed above the first vehicle axis and use of the previously mentioned plug-in charger.
