By Jim Gibbins - 1st June 2020

The Philippine market for medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles over 5 tons gvw is estimated to have declined by over 26% to 2,889 units in the first quarter of 2020 from already weak year-earlier sales of 3,930 units. Sales in March plunged as exports, investment and domestic business activity dropped sharply due to the COVID19 coronavirus pandemic.

Market leader Isuzu’s sales are estimated to have declined by 15% to 1,449 units in the first quarter, while further down the table the declines are estimated to have been much sharper, with Hino’s sales down by 35% at 517 units, Mitsubishi-Fuso’s sales 40% lower at 314 units and Foton’s sales falling by 39% to 245 units.
