USA - A new wireless charging station is being installed by Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) in Clearwater, Florida, which, PSTA claims, will be the first on the US East Coast. The charging system uses 250kW Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) technology from WAVE (Wireless Advanced Vehicle Electrification) Inc* of Salt Lake City.

The charging system is to be used by electric buses supplied by BYD. In late 2018, PSTA added two BYD electric buses to its fleet, and according to BYD, it plans to add four more in Q3/4 of 2020. The e-buses currently charge by using a plug-in charger, which takes about four hours for a full charge. The new technology is expected to reduce charging time by more than half.
