Germany - The BPW Group of Wiehl has acquired an unspecified stake in UZE Mobility GmbH, a Bremen-based start-up focussed on creating a global ‘Big Data’ marketplace via data collection using artificial intelligence (AI) of primarily un-used mobility data from all types of vehicles and the market environment. By collecting and re-organising this data it says it aims to create new business models across all industries.

Through this investment, the BPW Group will also become a key strategic development partner, notably in sales. The BPW Group sees itself as a good fit in this regard as an owner-managed group of companies (7,350 employees worldwide, annual turnover of EUR1.52bn in 2018) that develops, produces and markets technologies, system solutions and services for the transport of goods by road worldwide. Of key importance is BPW’s European trailer telematics subsidiary, idem telematics GmbH, which networks the transport and mobility data of freight, driver and vehicle.
