UK / Germany - Blackburn-based Electra Commercial Vehicles Ltd has announced contract services provider, Biffa, has placed an order for 27 all-electric waste trucks for its Manchester City Council (MCC) waste management operations. This investment, Electra claims, marks the most significant purchase of electric refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) in the UK to date and result in Manchester City Council replacing almost half of its refuse collection vehicles with Electras.

The new electric RCVs, which are diesel replacements, are based on an Electra converted Econic chassis, a Geesink-Norba N4 23H25 TH LI-ON Power Pro all-electric body, and an Omnidel split bin lift from Terberg Matec. Biffa holds the contract for waste collection and street cleaning in the city.
