BPW to lead consortium in developing autonomous trailer technology

Germany – BPW Group of Wiehl, Germany, a producer of trailer running gear and associated chassis technologies, is to lead a consortium in the development of an autonomous trailer. Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is funding the three-year EUR4.7m research project which is to investigate the conditions necessary for autonomous use of trailers.

The project is entitled IdenT, which is short for Identification of dynamic and safety-relevant trailer conditions for automated trucks). Partners in the consortium include: The Institute of Mechatronic Systems at Leibniz University, Hannover: the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM.
