Hino Trucks and Toyota joint development of Class 8 Fuel Cell truck

Japan / USA – Japanese truck manufacturers, Toyota Motors Corporation of Toyota, Aichi, Japan and its subsidiary, Hino Trucks Ltd of Hino-shi, Japan, have come together to develop jointly a hydrogen fuel cell powered tractor unit for the Class 8 market in North America in conjunction with Hino Trucks’ subsidiaries in the USA  and Toyota Motor North America. The companies are to combine the newly developed Hino XL Series chassis with Toyota’s proven fuel cell technology and aim to deliver exceptional capability without harmful emissions. The collaboration expands upon the existing effort to develop a 25-ton fuel cell truck for the Japanese market which was announced earlier this year.

*Hino Trucks are assembled in Mineral Wells, West Virginia by Hino Motors Manufacturing USA Inc a subsidiary of Hino Motors Ltd, and part of the Toyota Group Companies. Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. is responsible for manufacturing trucks under the HINO brand, providing components for Toyota, and supplying service parts for HINO products. (The facility in the West Virginia was officially opened in August 2019 and extends to one million square feet. It assembles Class 4 to Class 8 trucks under the Hino brand and employs 470 people increasing to 800  in 2021).
