By Jim Gibbins - 1st December 2020
USA / Denmark / Canada – New Power is the name of a new division of Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana covering electrolyser technology for hydrogen production for industry and production of electricity using fuel cells for powering stationary and mobile applications, including trains, buses, trucks etc.
According to Cummins, the electrolysis process of splitting water into its base elements of hydrogen and oxygen is financially viable when electricity is sourced cheaply, such as from excess production, wind turbine generation, solar or hydro-electric installations. Cummins has made significant advancement in this sector since its acquisition in September 2019 of Hydrogenics Corporation of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada - a specialist producer of hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyser technology. Three key examples are detailed below.
