Europe - Daimler Trucks AG of Stuttgart, Germany, Iveco SpA of Turin, Italy and the Volvo Group of Gothenburg, Sweden have committed to work alongside Austrian oil company, OMV and Dutch firm, Shell New Energies NL BV under a new EU initiative called H2Accelerate, to help create conditions for mass-market roll-out of hydrogen trucks in Europe.

Aiming towards a common vision of delivering a net-zero emissions energy system, the H2Accelerate participants believe hydrogen is an essential fuel for the complete decarbonisation of the truck transportation sector. Achieving a large-scale roll-out of hydrogen fuelled trucks is expected to create several new industries including zero-carbon hydrogen production facilities, large-scale hydrogen distribution systems, a network of high-capacity refuelling stations for liquid and gaseous hydrogen and, the production of the hydrogen fuelled trucks.
