Daimler Buses has set itself a range of ambitious targets for 2030, including achieving an adjusted return on sales of nine percent by the end of the decade and eight percent by as early as 2025 (2023: adjusted return on sales of 4.7%). Overall, the business segment is set to become more lean and therefore profitable in order to shoulder the investment into electrification.

This has been made possible through the rollout of telematics hardware and constant software updates to its global digital platform on all of its vehicle brands. These services are offered through Mercedes-Benz Trucks Uptime, Fleetboard or OmniPlus in Europe, Truckconnect in Asia and Detroit Connect branded solutions in North America.

Record sales (526,053 trucks and buses sold) led to record revenue in 2023 (EUR 55.9 billion) and an increase of EUR5bn compared with EUR 50.9 billion in 2022). Adjusted EBIT in 2023 grew by 39% to a record EUR 5,489 million compared with EUR 3.959 million in the previous year.

Certification requires the necessary aftermarket services including maintenance and repairs, expert consulting services and replacement parts distribution. Daimler Truck opened a new 22,000 sqm truck and bus all-purpose driveline agnostic servicing and sales centre in Stuttgart (“Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Center”) for Mercedes-Benz and Fuso trucks as well as Setra and Mercedes-Benz buses. This is its fifth such facility in the past 12 months, and it plans to add three more in Europe in 2025.

In collaboration with Esterer, a German tank body specialist, the 18.5-metre eEconic was equipped with a 40,000-litre fuel tanker trailer that draws electricity from the vehicle batteries, helping aid in the aircraft refuelling process by powering the fuel pump.

The jointly developed sLH2 process of handling subcooled liquid hydrogen allows for a higher storage density, a greater range, more energy efficiency and faster refuelling times, superior on all metrics. The first public sLH2 pilot station has been opened in Wörth am Rhein, Germany, and is provided with liquid hydrogen by Linde.

The companies stated that the merger is delayed due to slower than anticipated processes in obtaining the necessary regulatory clearances and approvals under competition and other laws and regulations.

The company announced increased sales in 2023, with 526,053 trucks and buses sold compared with 520,291 in 2022. Despite supply chain issues, it tripled its BEV sales in 2023 to 3,443, or 277% more than in 2022 (914 units).

The purpose of the BharatBenz Regional Training Centres is to upskill and reskill the capability and competence of more than 3,500 drivers and, sales and service personnel across the BharatBenz network, annually.

Daimler is currently building a customer trial fleet of five of its Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks (semi-trailer tractors) which will be tested on German roads starting in June 2024. With a focus on long-haul transport applications, the vehicles will offer a payload of 25 tons at a gross combination weight (GCW) of 40 tons.
