Rådström was appointed to the board on 1 January, joining John O’Leary, president and CEO of Daimler Truck North America; Stefan Kürschner, CFO of Daimler Truck NA; and Peter Vaughan Schmidt, the CEO of Torc.

Daimler announced decreased sales in 2024, with 460,409 trucks and buses sold compared with 526,053 in 2023, a 12% decrease. This is a rocky start for recently appointed CEO Karin Rådström, who succeeded Martin Daum late last year.

The Mercedes ServiceCard charging card provides drivers of battery-electric Mercedes-Benz trucks with access to UTA Edenred's extensive public charging network. Initially available in Germany, Austria, and France, the service is set to roll out in Italy, Spain, and other European countries in the coming months.

Daimler plans on delivering another 50 of these e-trucks before the end of the year, with the majority heading to European dealerships as demonstrator models.

These buses have been integrated into the fleet of Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH), a major public transport operator in the area. Furthermore, Daimler announced that 350 more units had been ordered by the other operator managing Hamburg’s network, Hochbahn.

This was one of the largest single orders in the company’s storied history.

The near-series production prototype was presented at eMobility Days in Berlin earlier this month. The orderbook is now open with series production set for 2026.

Besides developing these trucks, the project includes investing in production facilities and feasibility studies into the European hydrogen value chain. The funding is to complement existing Daimler Truck projects focusing on liquefied hydrogen refuelling technology, storage and refilling logistics.

The Gaggenau plant manufactures axle and transmission components, such as shafts, gear wheels, and housings which are then sent to the Kassel plant, where the components are assembled into complete electric axles. Gaggenau also produces structural parts for the truck’s cab.

This new mechatronics laboratory is designed to increase the efficiency of software verification and validation and is expected to cut costs by some 70-80% compared with traditional methods.

Dutch logistics firm Simon Loos has placed an order for 75 Mercedes Benz eActros 600 long-haul battery-electric trucks. Deliveries are scheduled for Q1 2025.
