BorgWarner develops 800v electric motor for commercial vehicle application

USA - BorgWarner Inc of Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA has announced it has developed for the CV market its new new High Voltage Hairpin electric motor, the HVH 320. Claiming it suits a variety of hybrid and electric CV applications, it has already won a contract with a large European OEM.

Production of the HVH 320, which is equipped with 800-volt capabilities and available in four variants, is expected to start in 2024. Borgwarner claims this multi-faceted platform will support manufacturers’ goal of a common electric drivetrain and deliver approximately 97% peak efficiency and more than 400kW of power. It offers clean and quiet operation, BorgWarner continues, while reaching a torque output of up to 1270Nm.
