By Jim Gibbins - 1st February 2021

USA – Allison Transmission Inc of Indianapolis, Indiana and bus manufacturer, Gillig Corporation of Livermore, California, have signed an agreement allowing Gillig to offer Allison’s eGen Flex electric hybrid propulsion system from 2021.

The eGen Flex system claims to be capable of improving fuel economy by up to 25% versus a conventional clean diesel bus as well as being capable of operating accessories electrically such as air conditioning and electric heat at optimal efficiency with the electric power available. Moving these accessories to electric power reduces the strain on the engine, says Gillig, and reduces fuel consumption and maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime.
