India - Bus and coach sales tumble 85% in Q3/2020-21

India – Domestic sales of buses (7.5t gvw and above) contracted by 84.3% in the third quarter (Q3) of the financial year 2020-21 (October to December) to register just 1,726 units compared with 11,025 units in Q3 of FY 2019-20!
Total bus production mirrored sales in India in Q3 of FY 2020-21 with output contracting by 76.4% to 3,061 units, down from 12,952 in the same quarter of the  previous year. Total exports decreased by 19.3% in Q3 of FY 2020-21 from 2,047 units to 1,651 units.

Turning to the individual segments, sales of medium-duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) fell by 78.1% from 3,195 units in Q3 of FY2019-20 to 699 units in same quarter for FY 2020-21. Export sales shrank by 41% from 1,000 units to 590 units, and production contracted by 65.4% to 1,326 (3,887). Tata Motors continued to dominate – despite its market share being eroded significantly by Eicher.
