India - Bus and coach sales tumble 91% in the first three quarters of FY2020-21

India –  Sales of buses (7.5t & above) fell by 91.2% in the first three quarter’s period (April- December) of fiscal year 2020-21 (Q1-Q3/2020-21) to register just 2,578 units, down from 29,206 units in the first nine months of FY2019-20. Total bus production decreased by 84.9% from 33,554 units to 5,067 units and bus exports shrank by 51.9% to 2,829 units from 5,885 units.

Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of medium-duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) declined by 90.6% from 12,331 units in Q1-Q3/2019-20 to 1,162 units in the same period of the year 2020-21. Export sales shrank too, but by 56.1% from 2,876 units to 1,263 units; production also contracted sharply by 82% from 13,293 units to 2,396 units.
