Germany – The Mercedes-Benz production plant at Ludwigsfelde is 30 years old announced Daimler AG of Stuttgart last month. The first vehicle to roll off the line was the LN2 truck, but the plant was soon after transformed to build vans – starting with the T2 van model range. Ludwigsfelde, now Daimler’s third largest van production plant, is currently producing Sprinter chassis platforms and chassis cabs  - on average 200 per day – or well over 50,000 per year. Some 820,000 vehicles have now been produced there and sold all over the world.

The T2 van was built from 1991 until 1996. It was followed by the Vario and finally the Sprinter. The open model variants have been in production in Brandenburg since 2006. Currently, in Ludwigsfelde, the third Sprinter generation with its derivatives the wind runner and the traction head are being produced. These are suited to applications such as ambulance, camper van or refrigerated van bodies.
