Scania introduces dis-engageable tandem axle on 6x4 and 8x4 truck models

Scania rear lift and dis-engageable tandem drive axle

SwedenScania AB of Södertälje, Sweden has made available a liftable and dis-engageable tandem bogie axle (LTDA), which is aimed at applications on 6x4 or 8x4 chassis such as tippers, timber trucks and other vehicles that often run unladen in one direction. Designated LDTA  and available to order immediately in conjunction with the RB662/R660 axle family, the new option can save three to six per cent on fuel with the tag-axle disengaged and lifted, depending on operation. The feature is designed to reduce fuel consumption as well reduce tyre wear, provide a tighter turning radius and maximise load transfer for increased traction when unladen.
