Broshuis develops specialist extendable wind turbine blade trailer with scissor lift

The NetherlandsBroshuis BV, the Overijssel-based manufacturer of trailers for specialist heavy haulage applications, has developed a range of ‘blade’ trailers to meet the challenges of transporting wind turbine blades. These blades – which can be as much as 80 metres in length - present significant challenges to hauliers in negotiating routes and terrain due to overhang and outswing.

To cater for the requirements, Broshuis has developed three-time extendable and a four-time extendable chassis called Quattro, which can be equipped with three, four or even five axles. The company said three axles are generally sufficient in terms of meeting weight requirements for blades but, adding additional axles broadens the versatility of the trailer allowing hauliers to use them for other wind power duties such as transporting the turbine generator units, column sections or the concrete bases.
