Toyota to start trials of fuel-cell light-duty delivery trucks in Japan this year

Japan - Toyota Motor Corporation of Toyota, Japan has agreed with three major convenience store operators in Japan to begin trials of hydrogen-powered fuel-cell delivery trucks later this year.

The light-duty trucks to be used in the trials will have a maximum payload of 3 tons and are currently being jointly developed by Toyota Motor and its commercial vehicle subsidiary, Hino Motors Ltd of Hino-shi. The trucks will have a range of around 400km on a single tank of hydrogen.

The convenience store operators involved in the project are Seven-Eleven, Family Mart and Lawson. The aim of the trials is to determine the practicality and viability of using hydrogen fuel-cell powered light-duty trucks for transporting goods between local distribution centres and convenience stores.
