Spain Irizar e-mobility of Aduna (the electric mobility division of the Irizar Group of Ormaiztegi) has placed its first autonomous 12m all-electric Irizar iebus into service in the city of Malaga. It represents the conclusion of a collaborative R&D project, led by the Irizar Group, called AutoMOST*, that started four years ago. Irizar explained the autonomous electric bus project was financed by the CDTI** and involved 11 other organisations including Datik, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Insia, CEIT-IK4, and the University of Vigo. The pilot is being run in conjunction with Malaga City Council and operator, Avanza.

The bus uses a high-precision positioning and guidance system and is connected to a control centre from which specific instructions can be given to each unit, as well as to carry out monitoring and to devise the itinerary in real time.
